SIWES UniPort Portal Project

Overview

The University of Port Harcourt already had a well-established Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) when they engaged us at Speedlink Hi-Tech Solutions Limited. The SIWES UniPort Portal went live in April 2026 and is currently supporting students through their industrial training placements.

Problem Statement

Prior to the introduction of the SIWES UniPort Portal, the management of industrial training at the University of Port-Harcourt relied on established traditional methods. These included paper-based logbooks and predominantly manual processes for placement applications and approvals. While these approaches had supported the scheme effectively over the years, the growing number of students and the need for timely communication, consistent documentation, and easier oversight created clear opportunities for digital improvement.

Proffered Solution

The SIWES UniPort Portal is a secure, role-based web application that digitises the full SIWES process. Users access the system through designated login URLs according to their role, with clear separation of privileges to maintain security and accountability.

Solution Features

We introduced structured digital workflows for placement approvals and replaced paper logbooks with a digital activity logging system for real-time reporting. The portal features comprehensive document management to keep files centralized, while real-time progress tracking allows students and administrators to monitor approvals instantly. At the administrative level, privileged access controls enable user onboarding, supervisor assignment, and university-wide report generation.
